Bedside Table

The alarm clock, the mobile phone, a book: What do you have on the bedside table next to the bed in the bedroom? The answers to this question are probably as individual as the people themselves – and yet the bedside tables usually look the same. Small pieces of furniture that are roughly the same color as the bed and have a drawer and storage space. There’s nothing wrong with that. However, if you want to bring a breath of fresh air into your bedroom, here are four ideas for you to make your bedside table that little bit more special.

1. Antique chairs and chic stools

The bedside table in the bedroom does not have to be a table in the classic sense. All it needs is an object that offers a shelf. Even better: if it also looks decorative. This is the case with old furniture like chairs or stools. You often see furniture like this at the flea market and think to yourself: Pretty, but what should I do with a single chair? The answer: Bring more charm into the bedroom by converting the chair or stool into a bedside table. It doesn’t matter if the shelves on both sides of the bed don’t have the same style. This makes the room even more interesting.

Also interesting for everyone who likes to travel and loves a special design on their four walls: old suitcases that are misused as bedside tables. Like classic bedside cabinets with their compartments, they also offer the possibility of making something disappear inside. So not everything you want to have within easy reach of the bed is immediately visible. The practical thing about these two options is that both the chairs and the suitcases serve as decoration at the same time.

2. Use the swing as a bedside table

If you like it a little more playful and lighter, you might like the idea of converting a swing into a bedside table. This variant is suitable for people who do not need a lot of storage space next to their beds but only need a small shelf. By using the seat of the swing as a bedside table, you not only create a suitable place for the book you read to fall asleep, but also an eye-catcher in the bedroom. Best of all: You can customize the look of the swing by simply building it yourself and adapting it to the rest of the room with a little color. The swing is also ideal if your bed is not against a wall but is standing free in the room and you don’t want a bedside table to spoil the open ambiance. However, some caution is required if you keep fragile items like glasses next to your bed. We will tell you how to do this in the following article:

3. For more space: use the side table as a bedside table

A small storage area is not enough for you and your current bedside table is already full: Then the space next to your bed must be used a little more. For example, how about the idea of using a side table as a bedside table? What is suitable depends primarily on how much space you have in your room. Whether you choose a high table or whether you prefer a long piece of furniture is entirely up to you. The selection of side tables is almost endless so that there is a suitable model for every taste. If you want, you can build the side table yourself.

4. Decorative wall ladder

Wall ladders are particularly popular in bathrooms, where you can hang towels over the struts and thus combine decoration and usefulness. However, the same also works in the bedroom if you place a wall ladder or a small ladder shelf next to the bed on the wall and use it as a bedside table. The ladder shelf not only offers storage space but also allows for more order thanks to the different levels – and space for decoration.
